Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I expect my driveway to be free of snow all the time?

Cody Boy Construction guarantees one driveway clearing per 24-hour period when we receive 6″ of snow or more. If it snows after we have cleared your driveway we will clear this snow from your driveway before the next snow cycle. If you would like quicker service please text Gretchen to get on the schedule. We suggest that you consider purchasing a snowblower in addition to contracting with a snow removal service if you want the security of knowing that you can get into and out of your house at any given time.

can i request last minute snow removal?

Yes, but you will be charged a fee of $100 plus your base rate. We require 48 hour advance notice for snow removal request made outside of the regular schedule.

How do you determine my snow removal price?

Your price is determined by the size, slope and location of your driveway. Large driveways, driveways with steep upslopes or downslopes, driveways in high snow areas and/or driveways that are prone to snow drifts may be priced higher than other Snoqualmie Pass driveways. There is a basic entry-level driveway in our neighborhoods (Two car wide & two cars deep). We have a set price to clear these driveways. This minimum price is based off of our operating costs, which include labor, fuel, parts, lubricants, insurance, replacement equipment, etc. A lot of driveways will be bid at this minimum price. Some factors which would increase that bid are: larger size, harder to clear, minimal snow storage, slope, snow load location, wind issues, roof unload, and turnouts.

What if there are cars parked in my driveway when my plow driver comes?

Keep an eye and ear out for the plow guy and move your cars to the street when you know he's on his way. If he passes you up because of cars blocking the driveway, he will get you on his way back by, assuming the cars have been moved.  If no one is home to move the cars, we will safely go around your car or obstacles to clear as much of the driveway as possible. Then on our way back through, when all the cars are gone, we will clear the rest of the driveway. To get your money's worth, we ask that you park cars to one side of the driveway. This allows us to clear the most area the first time, giving you a place to move your car that is free of snow.

How close can you get to my garage door?

In most cases, our small tractors can safely maneuver within 12 ” to 18 ” inches of your garage door, car, stairs and/or entry. Our operators will remove snow from around these areas to the best of their ability. However, they may decide that the potential for damage to your property does not warrant the risk of removing a few more inches of snow. Metal garage doors are particularly susceptible to damage, therefore we tend to approach metal garage doors with caution and sometimes stay farther away when the snow is wet and heavy. By keeping our distance from your garage door, we are protecting it. Wet, heavy snow and/or warm ground temperature turns the base layer of snow into a slushy mess. This wet base layer tends to push out in front of the snow blower as the tractor proceeds in towards your garage door. When conditions are right (or wrong) snow rides on top of the slushy base layer and does not process properly into the snow blower. Operators are familiar with these conditions and do their best to minimize the snow deposited in front of your garage door. Please call or text and advise us if you need help removing this snow- 206-941-8014.

When will my driveway be cleared?

The timing of storms can be pretty unpredictable. There is no set start time each day, although 70% of start times for driveways are between 12pm - 3 pm. We always start on driveways after we have cleared parking lots, subdivisions, and the Fire Department. Because of the unpredictability and severity of the weather, we cannot guarantee that we will arrive at your house at a set time every day. Route clearing times depend on: Equipment breakdowns - many of these can be prevented if driveways are kept clear of shovels, sleds, wood, newspapers, rope, extension cords, etc. Road Traffic - HWY 906 can sometimes get backed up when the freeway closes and on weekends. Depth of snow - once snow reaches over 8-12 inches, clearing times increase quite a bit - meaning the more snow there is the longer it takes us to get through our routes. Type of snow - light, fluffy snow can be plowed much faster than heavy, thick snow, a.k.a. "Cascade Concrete".

Why am i being charged for a double plow?

When snow accumulation in the driveway exceeds 18 inches, we charge a Double Plow. This is because once the snow gets above the height of the blower, it is twice as much work to remove. This charge may happen after a heavy storm or if the driveway has not had regular maintenance. During most winter seasons you will likely have 2 to 4 double plows throughout the season depending on, the number of storms and their severity.

Do I need to buy snow stakes or poles?

No, there is no need for you to run out and buy stakes or PVC poles.  Cody Boy Construction, Inc. will purchase and place these for you as needed, or upon request.  If you already have snow stakes in place, please make sure they are properly secured in the ground. Please DO NOT place rocks at base of poles, as this is a hazard for our equipment. Snow stakes must be drilled into the ground.

What if the county berms me in after my driveway has been cleared?

Berm snow removal is much harder and compact snow, making it more difficult to remove. There are times when we are not able to return the same day because of operator fatigue, heavy snowfall or slow road clearing response from the County.
